Personal Developement and Mentoring from a Tutor?
The idea of my son being mentored by Mark Ayers over at A Plus Academic Coaching wasn’t something I had considered when I was looking for a math tutor. My son was doing pretty well overall in terms of grades but he had always struggled with math. While I had a lot of math experience in my past I was rusty at it and knew he would be better off with someone who teaches math for a living.

A+ Academic Coaching is committed to working with individuals of every age, ability and subject. We have several staff members who have extensive experience in working with children as young as four years old to help them build basic proficiency in phonics and elementary reading, as well as writing.
Our Executive Director is trained to work with students who have dyslexia. He has studied with a professor at Yale University by the name of Sally Shaywitz, who is considered one of the leading researchers on dyslexia. Professor Shaywitz’ philosophy is that even the severest forms of dyslexia can be overcome. This is the approach that A+ also practices. We also work extensively in middle and high school to bring their reading skills up to grade level.
We begin any relationship that involves reading tutoring with a reading comprehension assessment that tells us what level a student is reading at. From there, we develop an individualized plan and goals to help the client master the reading objectives they want to achieve.
